This was the first time From Gardens Where We Feel Secure had been issued on CD and marked Virginia's deal with Coulmbia Nippon to distribute her records in Japan. The CD booklet featured a biography and discography in
Japanese and also a rare early photo of Virginia. The album's theme was a blend of live recordings of countryside sounds and music written by Virginia designed to evoke the atmosphere of a summers day.
The album was divided into two sections titled 'Morning' and 'Afternoon'.
The sound effects used on the album were recorded at various times between
April and June 1982 at locations in and around Moulsford, Oxfordshire.
A Summer Long Since Past originally featured as
the B-Side to the 12" release of the single Love's
A Lonely Place To Be in January 1983.
When The Fields Were On Fire originally appeared on the compilation cassette Meridians
Two released in May 1983.
Sanctus was one of four bonus tracks featured on the album and originally featured on Virginia's 1982 A
Bao A Qu EP.
Melt The Snow- and the two tracks following it - were taken from the 1985 Melt The Snow EP.
The first Melt The Snow instrumental track was
originally titled Bell Of New York, taken from the
title of the barrel organ melody that opens the song.
The second instrumental was untitled on the original Melt The Snow EP, but had originally featured on a 1983 radio session where it was called The Nursery At The End Of Time. The track subsequently
featured as the B-Side to the November 1985 single Darkness Has Reached Its End
where it was simply titled The End Of Time.
