Comments: I just wanted to say that I've had a copy of "Melt the
Snow" for many, many years...and until today, I'd never
listened to it. What a wonderful surprise! It's beautiful
and unforgettable. Perfect for this coolish first day of
Winter. Belated thanks.

Comments: I will never forget my big brother (joe2stroke) saying to
me "listen to this voice" & with that he played me 'some
small hope' & I couldn't believe the voice I was hearing!
it was just AN ANGEL!
To make things even better Sylvian popped up!
I always loved 'Japan' music anyway - Karns fretless etc etc
the year was 1986 & i have searched for Virginia astley
music everywhere! I recently paid a small fortune for my
fave 'hope in a darkened heart' on cd in an ebay auction.
I read in the interview that Virginia wants to record an
instrumental - what a waste of a brilliant voice!!!
come on Virginia - give us some more of your beautiful
voice! & if you ever fancy doing something different - drop
us a line & you can add something to our next cd!

Comments: Virginia,
In 1985 while in college, I happened on a compilation
record that I felt I had to have. It contained many artist
that I had not experienced, except for Marc Almond. I
cannot say how many times it was played then, but I was in
awe of your track that was contained. What captured me
was your voice, ANGELIC. Since then I started to pay
attention to the list of contributing artists on albums,
and gained a large collection of music from exploring from
that one compilation. I have just purchaced your new cd
(re-release), and found that to have a website is going to
be a joy for me to catch up even more than I ever knew.
Continue the great work and will look forward to what you
will bring new to our lives in the future. All the best.

Comments: Glad to see "From Gardens..." has been re-released and am
enjoying it as I write! Hopefully Virginia's music will
become more readily available as it was hard enough to get
when it originally came out. Would especially like to
get "Hope in A Darkened Heart" as I left my tape in a
hired car and never got it back! (and the solo with David
Sylvian was gorgeous).

Best wishes
Alex

Comments: Hello Virginia. Came across your website quite casually and
suddenly realised our paths have crossed a fe w times some 20 (..)
years ago. First we were introduced by john mcgeoch when i was
about to make a sololp ,where the late billy m. sang on. a few
years later i played in lotus eaters and you in prefab sprout and
that , i believe, was a double bill concert in london's lyceum.
It would be nice to see if we could somehow be in touch again.
bye for now, best, Stephen Emmer

Comments: Virginia, your music has an extraordinary combination of
childlike innocence and wise, mature depth. "From Gardens"
was the first piece of music I was able to sit down and
listen to after my mother died.

Comments: I've been a fan since the early 80s and have most
recordings including a few collaborations. Along with
the likes of Vini Reilly and Alison Statton, Virginia Astley
must be one of the most innovative and influential
artists of the post punk "Quiet Revolution" era.
I'd sort of lost touch with what was happening though
after the "Hope In A Darkened Heart" album. It was only
by chance I discovered a copy of "Had I The Heavens"
at Crocodisc in Paris in 1999. And then a few months
later, I managed to buy a CD of "From Gardens..." to
replace my crackly vinyl version. This was from Tower
Records in London. The staff at the Rough Trade shop
in Covent Garden didn't have a clue what I was talking
about so they should be ashamed of themselves!
Let's hope for some new songs soon then...

Comments: I am a fan of you and I am so lucky to have four of your CDs
- "From gardens where we feel secure", "Hope in a darkened
heart", "All shall be well" & Had I the heavens".All of them
are japanese version with lyris. I love the second and third
album very much. Since your last album was released in 1996,
when will you release your new album?

Comments: Virginia,
I am such a big fan of you and your brother Jon's
work. Your music is a perfect balance between the very
modern and pastoral. Please do another album soon and raise
your daughter to be the great musician and person you are!

years ago with the beautiful album "Hope in a darkened
heart", that i'm trying to find in CD. I know there is a
Japanese editon but I can't find it anywhere...
Thanks for your unforgetable songs.

Comments:
Had been aware of Virginia's music for a long time, but
only recently secured a copy of 'From Gardens Where We Feel
Secure'. Instantly the music takes you to another place, a
better time, a hot Summer's evening in the middle of June.
It's everything I expected, the song titles alone give that
you warm sense of escaping into the country. The whole
album is a highlight, but 'It's Too Hot To Sleep' leaves a
haunting presence long after the music has finished. An
excellent site which I will look forward to returning to in
the future.

Comments: How I wish I still had my copy of "Hope in a darkened heart".
It's still programmed into my internal jukebox and plays
itself spontaneously in moments of wistfulness. It must be
re-released! So beautiful.

Comments: I remember hearing "Love's a lonely place" when I was at
High School studying to get into University and loved it
then. Five years later I bought the CD Hope in a Darkened
Heart whilst browsing through HMV and it is one of my most
listened to CDs. I just wish I could get a hold of
Virginia's other material.

The music still sounds wonderful 20 years on.
