This was a CD release of an album previously only avaiable on digital download.

The Singing Places is described by Virginia as "music of the upper reaches, consists of five tracks that cross fade into each other. The music interweaves with field recordings made in different locations on the upper reaches of the Thames." It consists of field recordings conducted by Virginia using a Sony PCM D100.

Key personnel on this release: Virginia Astley (flute, piano, field harmonium and spoken word), Florence Astley (harp), Ted Morse (baritone horn) and Jon Bowyer (harmonica). Engineer: Tom Jobling.

 

TRIVIA

Virginia offered up details of the birds featured on the recordings, in order of appearance: "moorhen, woodpigeon, greenfinch, little grebe, lapwings, oystercatcher, Canada geese (mixed in with the lapwings), tawny owl, collared dove, robin, jackdaw, blackbird, house sparrows, carrion crow, rook, magpie, wren …blackbird/wren exchange."
