New Welsh Writing Awards Longlist

Virginia features on the longlist for the New Welsh Writing Awards 2016: University of South Wales Prize for Travel Writing.

New Welsh Review, in association with the University of South Wales and the CADCentre, has posted the longlist featuring nine travel nonfiction essays. Both new and established writers based in Wales, England and Ireland are in the running for the top prize including the award-winning travel writer John Harrison.

Virginia (who was also listed for the 2015 Awards), is listed for her work Keeping The River – Progressing via short trips from the source to the mouth of the Thames, the author and her companions in this book explore the mother-daughter dynamic, the folk meanings of ash, the dangers of weirs and the habits and pet hates of the resident lock-keeper.
