NOTES

This compilation was a showcase for various Some Bizarre artists including The The, Coil, Cabaret Voltaire and Test Dept.

The sleeve notes describe this compilation as a “retrospective album” referring to the fact that a lot of the material was recorded in 1983/84. In fact, the album had originally been titled Waste Disposal Eyes and given the catalogue number BIZL7. Although test pressings were cut, the album was scrapped until 1985 when it was reissued under the new title of If You Can’t Please Your Self You Can’t Please Your Soul.

‘Waiting To Fall’ had been inspired by a television documentary about a prisioner in the USA who was on death row.

Vinyl copies of the album were issued with a bewildering array of inserts including a credit sheet which features a photo of Virginia and the band. The flip side of this sheet features the original sleeve art for the album when it was titled Waste Disposal Eyes.

TRIVIA

A promo 7″ featuring The The and Virginia’s contributions was issued at the time. This is a rare and valuable record, although not as valuable as test pressings of Waste Disposal Eyes which have carried a price tag of £95(!).
